Joseph Sofer's practice involves all aspects of intellectual property law. His experience includes patent trademark and copyright prosecution, litigation and corporate counseling. His prosecution practice covers complex areas of technology with emphasis in electrical, electronic, and e-Commerce/Internet matters. His litigation practice covers trademark, copyright, trade secrets and unfair advertising matters concerning a wide range of consumer products. His corporate counseling practice covers intellectual property transactions and advice on right-to-use, infringement and validity matters. He is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Prior to forming the law firm Sofer & Haroun, L.L.P., Mr. Sofer was associated with the law firm of Weil, Gotshal & Manges. During this time, he served as the Feature Article Editor of the Journal of Proprietary Rights, a monthly publication covering all aspects of intellectual property law. Prior to that time, he was an associate with the law firm of Morgan & Finnegan.

Mr. Sofer received his J.D. degree Magna Cum Laude from New York Law School in 1989, where he was an editor of the Journal of International Law. He also received a B.S.E.E. degree in 1982 and M.S.E.E. in 1984, both from Columbia University, with emphasis in telecommunications, computer networks and electronics. He is a member of tau-beta-pi, engineering honor society and eta-kappa -nu, electrical engineering honor society. He is also the recipient of Jacob Millman award from Columbia University for excellence in teaching assistantship, and American Jurisprudence award from New York Law School. For many years he served as a faculty member of Practicing Law Institute, lecturing on patent claim drafting techniques and strategies.
